Chris Nichols is a Principal at ghSMART, where he advises leading private equity investors, hedge fund managers, and Fortune 500 companies on their most pressing leadership challenges, including leadership assessment, team effectiveness, leadership coaching, and organizational change initiatives.
Prior to joining ghSMART, Chris was an Executive Vice President and Member of Rice Industries, a private equity group focused on long-term investments to build a strategic operating organization. At Rice Industries, Chris served as the President of Ancos, a contract manufacturer in the polymer industry, where he re-built the leadership team and completed an add-on acquisition to the company.
Before running Ancos, Chris was the Director of Strategy & Corporate Development at WestRock, a Fortune 500 paper and packaging company. In addition to working with the CEO and leadership team on strategy, M&A and organizational efforts, Chris co-led the merger integration effort between MeadWestvaco and RockTenn to create WestRock. Chris’ responsibilities in the merger included supporting talent evaluation, organizational structure, cultural integration, and human capital synergy capture between the two companies.
Earlier in his career, Chris was a consultant at McKinsey & Company, where he advised companies on strategy, organization and marketing. Chris was also involved in the transformation of McKinsey’s annual talent assessment process.
Chris holds an M.B.A. from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and a B.S. in Mathematical Economics from Wake Forest University. He lives in Richmond, Virginia with his wife and two boys.
