Origins

ghSMART was founded in 1995 by Geoff Smart. The firm was created following the publication of an award-winning Ph.D. dissertation study on management assessment in private equity.

The early leaders of ghSMART set out to create the top firm in the emerging segment of professional services called management assessment. Today, management assessment sits at the heart of our work, but we serve our clients on a broad range of their most critical talent and organizational challenges.

ghSMART is 100% employee-owned. Only team members have the opportunity to buy our stock if they choose. Our freedom and objectivity are not restricted by any corporation, outside investor, or public market shareholders. We are an independent, entrepreneurial consulting firm in charge of our own destiny. We are a “flat” organization that values proactivity and ability over bureaucracy and tenure. And all of our decisions and actions are guided by our corporate Credo and Values.
